Summer is here and in full swing. How do you like to celebrate the warm weather? Some people like to celebrate with long beach days - you pack sandwiches and snacks, you stuff the car full of blankets, towels, chairs, drinks, and sunscreen before the drive to the local beach where you plan to spend the next 8 hours tanning in your bikini. Some people celebrate with claustrophobic AC and backyard BBQs, inviting the whole neighborhood over for burgers and dogs. And some people don't celebrate because they have children and now have to tend to their needs all summer before going back to school.
When I was a little girl in elementary school, I had no idea the toll it was on my parents to keep me and my sister at home every summer. What did we do? What did they do? Memories blur and come back together in waves of biking outside and seeing neighborhood friends. But it's a testament to them as parents that they tolerated us all day every day in one of the best seasons of the year.
