Tell me this, ladies, when has a catcall actually worked?
Men seem deluded by the idea that hootin' and hollerin' at a lady is the best way to get her romantic affections, but in all my years living in this world, I've never swooned over a guy disrupting my peace with a brazen beckoning.
They may frame it as a "compliment" or an attempt at flattery, but women everywhere know a transactional conversation when we see one. And truthfully, there's nothing that makes me prickle in the streets more than an unsolicited catcall from a guy; just because it's summer and I'm wearing a sundress, doesn't mean I'm asking for a chat with a stranger. In fact, the woman in this next story was fed up with the male attention, and as she enjoyed her book in the park, she formulated the perfect response (and perhaps the only successful response) that she could think of. And with a dash of meanness and cutthroat truthfulness, she warded up the unwanted advances of a street-born cat call—which is a superpower that we all wish we could harness.
