You know what they say… We women were once girls together.
There's something unexplainable about girlhood when you try to turn the very specific feeling into something men can understand. How do you tell your boyfriend that you have to sit on the floor, criss-cross apple sauce, and do your makeup in the full-length mirror (that you haven't anchored to the wall yet)? Or, how you must go through several outfit changes throughout the day because there are specific shirts you only wear at night?
Answer: You can't. Nobody can understand girlhood like girls can, and that's because the feeling is reserved for us. In a world where it seems like we can't have anything, we remember the whimsy that is a girl's experience. Maybe we want multiple reusable water bottles so they correlate to the color palette of the seasons… Maybe we need to spend hours deciding what to eat before we finally decide on the first Chinese restaurant we saw on DoorDash. There are so many examples I can write about, but they will only tell half the story. The other half is tucked safely in between leggings and Ugg boots—where we keep our cash, credit, and lip gloss.
Shall we take a trip down girlhood lane?
