No matter how old I am, whenever I find myself at a hangout with my extended family, it always feels very important to secure the best seat at the table. I want to sit next to all my favorite cousins, those with whom I have a lot to talk about, and who will keep the conversation flowing. I want to be located next to all the best food, while also being close to an exit if I need to excuse myself mid-dinner.

It's a strategic choice, one that I have been conscious about since I was a kid, and I know I am not the only one, and it's definitely not the only place we do that. The strategy of finding a place to sit on the bus or train is something we are all probably familiar with, and don't get me started on the waiting room at the doctor's office.

To find the perfect spot and then give it up for someone else… It can only be under very special circumstances, which cannot be said regarding the story below.
