There are certain common elements when it comes to hiring practices these days that should never have been normalized. One of the many problems with the job application and interview process today is opacity from recruiters and human resources representatives. This is especially true when it comes to salary transparency.

If job candidates are expected to be crystal clear about their prior work experience and values, then so should employers. Remember: employment is, after all, a two-way street. It's a contract, and that negotiation only works if both parties are fully aware of what the expectations are. In fact, this is something that should be made clear before the first interview. Salaries should be listed in the job posting… full stop! That way, no one is wasting one another's resources and time. Unfortunately, far too many employers out there are well aware of the fact that they are asking for less than their candidates are worth. Rather than be transparent, these folks often choose to delay divulging this crucial information until the last possible moment.
