Adulthood may be sticky and difficult sometimes—what with bills and jobs and responsibility nonsense—but there are a few plus-sides to being an autonomous adult. For starters, you might have a little money in your pocket that you can use for things you want. If you're lucky, that $10 bill in your jeans pocket that has been put through the laundry cycle 4x may be put to good use for a sweet treat beverage while running errands. It's the little treats in life that keep us happy and motivated to press on with our duties.
One of my favorite "little treats" at the end of a hard day is the promise of my favorite TV show when I come home. Kicking off my boots, plopping down on the couch, and turning up the volume of my latest series obsession turns my adult anxieties to a simmer and ramps up my dopamine levels. There's something sweet about the habitual calmness that washes over us when we treat ourselves to a little something nice. For some, we may need the catharsis of a Mediterranean cruise, but can only afford an Aperol spritz on happy hour.
