Strife has always been in the hearts of Men. Tolkien knew it, Elrond knew it, and Morgoth knew it. Through all the ages of Middle Earth from the First Age to the Fourth, Men have always proven to be the weakest race in a lot of ways, but Men have good attributes too! Apart from the jealousy and the thirst for power, Men are also brave, foolhearty, and in the case of the ranger from the north, Men are also fit to become kings. Not every man has the quality they need to run the realms across the whole of Middle Earth, but Men like Aragorn, Faramir, and, to represent the lady folk as well, Éowyn, give our race a better reputation.
We may never be as steadfast as Samwise Gamgee, as wise as Gandalf, as nimble as Legolas, or as loyal as Gimli, but mankind can come together over a common goal—creating a Fellowship, if you will—to better the world. All it takes is a few good guys to lead us onward towards the light.
