There is so much talk about "healing your inner child" these days. In the recent Wicked movie, Elphaba sees a vision of her younger self as she sings "Defying Gravity." It's part of a widespread trend of embracing therapy terms and concepts in art… which I'm not the biggest fan of, but who cares, they can be helpful. If it makes you feel better to imagine your grown-up self giving your child-self a hug, then more power to you.

It's so easy to lose touch with your inner child. You've probably worked pretty hard to get the world to see you as an adult-- as someone who can take things seriously, solve problems, and be mature. And these aren't bad things, but sometimes we go too hard in that direction and lose sight of some of the fun we used to have. We lose touch with innocence, with playfulness, with simplicity.

These memes are here to remind you of all that. They don't exist to be serious. They exist to be unserious, fundamentally. They're here to take your mind off of all the muck and mire that comes with being an adult. Instead, they ask you to put your silly hat on and just enjoy it for a while.
