20-year-old cancels vacation after 21-year-old "bestie" assumes she'll pay for all the expenses herself: 'This trip was her idea!'

You know what they say happens when you assume…

These so-called "best friends," aged 20 and 21, were planning a vacation together and had previously agreed to split the cost of the hotel 50/50. The 20-year-old, who shared this story online, naturally assumed that the rest of the expenses would be split accordingly, from flights to activities to transit. Of course, there could be exceptions. If one person wants to treat the other to dinner or to drinks at some point during the trip, that would be more than acceptable. However, to assume that one person would take care of all of those aforementioned expenses without having a transparent conversation about it in advance does not bode well for a harmonious vacation. That's exactly what happened when the author learned that her 21-year-old "bestie" casually explained that she wouldn't be contributing any more money to their trip.

It's funny that the older friend was the one who assumed that the younger would contribute more money. Of course, their age difference is essentially negligible, which is why the assumption should have been that everything would be split evenly. Some people—and the 21-year-old friend seems to be one of them—like to enjoy all the privileges of a vacation without the responsibilities of budgeting and planning.
