There was a point in time where Pokémon ruled supreme in terms of marketing for children. I mean, the brand is still pretty popular to this day. Just a few years ago, it seemed like everyone and their mom was obsessed with playing Pokémon Go, and you can still find plenty of videos of new parents making their toddlers choose between different starter Pokémon plushies. But if you grew up in the 90s and early 2000s, you will remember how just about everyting that could be purchased with money could also be branded with Pokémon.
Most Millennials look back at fast food toys with fondness – that's because they were pretty good quality when we were growing up. Among the best were the 3D Pokémon cards from Burger King. I even had a gold-plated Polywhirl card that my child mind was convinced was magical. It might have been worth something if I had never opened the Poké-ball it came in or chipped off the paint. I don't know when they stopped doing it, but I miss when Pikachu merch made him kind of chubby with a slightly hunched back. He was much cuter that way than with a big head and eyes.
