Why should employees be loyal to companies that refuse to have their backs? 

There isn't much incentive these days for employees to devote their entire career to just one company. In fact, the advice these days is to stay at a company for 6 months to 2 years before trying to move up into a better-paying position at another workplace. A lot of workplaces allocate enough money for a 6% or 8% raise each year (if that employee has performed well, and if the company even gives raises!). Meanwhile, switching jobs can net you a whopping 50% salary increase. So the choice is clear…
