    Employee at electric vehicle company gets put on a PIP after having an argument with their new manager, who was hired only 3 months ago: 'The most [foolish] man I've ever had the awful displeasure of working with'

    Getting a new manager is always a grab bag. Sometimes you get lucky and get someone who is competent and collaborative, making morale and your working life that much improved. 

    And sometimes, well, sometimes you end up with the most incompetent and hostile, micromanaging boss, who dismantles your self-confidence and the spirit of the team. Using archaic "hard-nosed" management policies to command respect that they never earned.

    This, of course, goes two ways: workers either kowtow to their new tyrannical leader or stand up for themselves, butting heads and earning the wrath of the new manager. From there, it's a he-said-she-said battle with HR, along with who has the strongest recorded narrative and a matter of how much sway and influence the manager already has within the company to get their way.

      I got hired at basically the most popular EV company 6 months ago. It was like a dream; they took me training in a different country to get used to the environment before they launched in my region. Everything was going more than well, I was performing well my bi- yearly review by the country leader was good and everyone advocates for my work.

      3 months ago a new manager got hired who is the most (and forgive me for my language) dumbal man I've ever had the awful displeasure of working with. No communication, doesn't know what he was supposed to do, lead by throwing any question or help I needed on anyone else.

      We had a huge argument less than a month ago and I tried to solve it without escalation but he insisted on forcing me to go to HR, I went to HR they suggested to set up a meeting with him and discuss the issues. My biggest regret is not writing my own transcription of what happened during those meetings, so my reasoning for shortcomings (such as not agreeing to work on my day off ) are a mystery (there are Teams chats proof though).

      I talked to some friends and family to discuss my next steps, luckily my country is VERY strict on retaliation so I immediately called for an internal investigation to be conducted, I documented everything and I objected to the PIP immediately. I'm here to see if I should go on with the PIP since he will definitely not find anything to hold against me and just raw-dog it for another year, or should I start building a case with the labour office, or should I start looking for jobs now?       PanicSwtchd 21h ago • Sorry you're going through this. New managers will usually PIP people they don't get along with as a means to 'cement' their foothold in many cases. They may also be looking to 'make room' so they can bring in people loyal/aligned to them. It's not uncommon in many industries, though they usually try more diplomatic methods to get people to leave before going straight to PIP.

      Individual-Fail4709 20h ago That company is known to be hostile, and this is terrible behavior. They expect employees to work 80+ hours a week in the US and they stretch the rules in other countries. Not sure what you were expecting, and it s ks, but that's the company you went to. Look for a new job.

      Phnix21 19h ago • Sounds like my most recent manager. Trust me, that manager will be gone in about a year, too. He wants you out as you are too much trouble for him. HR will always protect managers. Going to HR to complain about your manager is like shooting yourself in the head.

      truthmode • 18h ago Same happened to me. New boss wasn't getting the respect he thought he deserved because people quickly found out he didn't know what he was doing. He failed to form good impressions and relationships early on so he decided to take it out lower level members of his team.

      I beat it though, so it can be done. Safest bet is to be already applying elsewhere. Just documenting everything I did all day for the PIP added an extra hour to my day easy, so I had even less time to look for other jobs. Good luck to you!
