Hunger at work is a special kind of torture. It's like all brain function just decides to stop working and your only coherent thought is planning what you're going to eat at your next meal. I've been spoiled as a remote worker. I can just wander into my kitchen anytime I feel the faintest twinge of hunger. But on those days I actually am in the office, waiting until my noon lunch break is pure agony. Could I bring a snack? Sure. Do I ever remember? Of course not.
I once tried to grab a bag of trail mix from the vending machine at my old job, thinking it was my salvation. Nope. Expired. I don't even know how long a bag of trail mix has to sit around to expire, but I don't want to find out. Now, when I'm stuck at my desk, hunger gnawing at my soul, I distract myself by fantasizing about my next meal. Memes seem to help the time go by too.
