Laughing away the pain is something we've all gotten to know pretty well. The beginning of this decade wasn't easy (to say the least), and most of you millennials have already suffered through one recession already. Instead of the housing market going to heck, everything is, all at once! The job market, the country, etc…
But we must do what we do best: act like it isn't happening. Or, better yet, laugh at it and make self-deprecating jokes that boast nihilism because the alternative is curling up into a ball with ice cream we can't afford and wonder when it's all going to end…
But hey, we've seen this film before. At least we have memes and hilarious social media users to help us turn a blind eye every once in a while. If we were constantly tuned in to find out which of our groceries is going up in price by $2.50, we'd probably pass out from the emotional whiplash. Speaking of which, let's look at some memes.
Most Gen Zers were only in the single digits when the Great Recession happened, including myself. So, I don't really know what it felt like to exist in such a tumultuous period of the housing crash… but I think I'm getting a taste of it now.
