Training a dog is a tough challenge. Many of us, whether we grew up with dogs or just fancy them, are overly confident in our dog training abilities until we're faced with a particularly impawsible pooch.
My dog, Murphy, is a 50/50 mix between a pitbull and a Belgian Malinois, possessing all of the most cuckoo traits from each breed. Obviously, as a rescue pup, I didn't know this when I brought him home at 8 weeks old, but alas, as he grew to be 90 lbs of solid muscle, insanely smart, a screaming vocalist, and a fairly reactive pooch, I knew I had my hands full. Despite his pitfalls, I love my Murphy unconditionally. While he is occasionally the bane of my existence—like when he's pulling on the leash or barking at some Goldendoodle—I secretly wish he were a single-braincelled labrador with a dopey drool and no anxiety to speak of. But lo and behold, this is the lot I was cast in the Dog Distribution Market. Despite the trials, I wouldn't have it any other way.
The couple in this next rescue story have reached a similar wits' end, wondering if they made a mistake in adopting their lovable, yet fearful, pooch. Zoey endured a heroic hardship and survived Hurricane Helene, but in the process, has been left a troublesome trainee. Keep scrolling to read how the kind dog-lovers of Reddit have encouraged this couple not only to stick with their dog, but to lean on each other—Hopefully saving more than just their dog, but their marriage as well.
