Isildur is so frustrating in the LOTR story. He had the perfect moment to destroy true evil, and instead, he held on tight and let it take over the entirety of Middle Earth. Well done, Buddy! But it's not just Isildur who is to blame—Elrond was there too, 3,000 years ago.
Perhaps we should be blaming the wise and glorious elven race for the downfall of the land. Stranded from their home country of Valinor, perhaps the elves had a secret vendetta against the inhabitants of Middle Earth, thus unconsciously unleashing the darkest realms of power and evil straight from the hand of Morgoth and Sauron themselves.
Oof.
As it turns out, the real moral of Lord of the Rings isn't to play the blame game between races of Men, Hobbits, Dwarves, Elves, and Wizards. Everyone ultimately comes together to destroy the badness of the world and we can all heroically thank the wise, fearlessness of our favorite hobbit: Samwise Gamgee.
