Are you familiar with that saying – 'you have to love yourself first, in order to let someone else love you?'. If you ask me, there is a lot of meaning behind this one phrase, and a lot of lessons to be learned.

First, there's obviously a great significance to someone's love for themselves. You can never truly be present in a relationship if you cannot understand why they are interested in you. There's something so fundamental about self-worth that it is crucial to any relationship you might have with anyone else. But more than that, if you are not happy with who you are and with your life, it is going to be extremely difficult not to let jealousy and resentment play a part in your relationships with others. Once those take the reins of the relationship, there is almost no way back.

A lot of ugly emotions can reveal themselves in a relationship when one is not secure and happy within themselves, which is what I believe happened in the story below.

This guy's reaction to his girlfriend's success in her career can definitely be called ‘ugly’. He said a lot of stuff that should not have been said, and he couldn't shake his bitterness and jealousy, and just be happy for her.
This led her to realise she deserves a lot better. She deserves someone who loves himself enough to be happy for her, and love her with his entire heart.
