I understand that it can be really difficult to find a last-minute babysitter, but manipulating other parents into taking responsibility for your child outside of the agreed-upon time is entitled beyond belief. Trying to justify it by implying that our protagonist had extra help – “a village” – while hosting a family gathering is a pathetic attempt to distort the situation in her favor!

Wow, the dad in the comment above is such a red flag! It's so clear that he was trying to get free childcare. Maybe if he had been honest from the get-go about needing some help, he would have gotten the childcare he needed. But trying to manipulate people into situation they don't want to be in is just going to get you alienated.
