The first time I heard the words "Dungeons & Dragons," I assumed it was a heavy metal album or a fantasy novel my older brother made up on the spot. It was the late '80s, and D&D wasn't something you stumbled across—it was whispered about in lunchrooms and comic book stores like a secret code. My brother came home one day carrying a binder so thick it could've been used to slay an actual dragon. Inside? The Monstrous Compendium, Vol. 1. Just page after page of wild, terrifying, bizarre creatures. I didn't even know what the game was, but I was instantly obsessed.
Of course, reading about D&D and actually playing D&D were two very different things. We spent weeks trying to convince our friends to join us, but it turns out telling someone "you play as an elf who rolls dice to decide if they can climb a rope" doesn't sound as exciting as it should.
Still, once we got a group together, chaos reigned—and we never looked back.
Whether you're a dungeon master, a murderhobo, or just that one guy who never remembers how spell slots work, these 30 D&D memes hit right where your initiative roll usually doesn't.
