Is there any series out there that has been made into more content than Lord of the Rings? Sure, there are plenty of other franchises, especially in the sci-fi genre, that have also inspired masses of movies and spinoffs, but Tolkien's creations are definitely up there when it comes to sheer mileage. There is plenty more where that came from, too—of course, there is Andy Serkis's Gollum movie in the works, and there are even arguments to be had that Tolkien's abandoned LOTR sequel, The New Shadow, is worth adapting to the big screen.
Whatever developments may happen in the future of the LOTR franchise, there is one offshoot we can rely on for extra entertainment in the meantime. This is the wonderful world of Tolkien-inspired memes, which use their rich source material to take the kind of creative leaps that only the goofiness of internet humor can get away with.
