Future dad can't contain his excitement about adopting first cat and goes on a shopping spree; cat community gives him a wholesome reality check in the comments

Howdy, feline fans. Do you remember adopting your first cat? We do. Like it was yesterday. Well, technically we don't remember adopting our first cat because our first cat was adopted by our parents when we were just a toddler (they found her behind a movie theater on their way out from a date night), but the first cat we adopted as an adult actually adopted us. She was a neighborhood cat that just waltzed right into our house and adopted us. We didn't have any choice in the matter, but we really didn't mind anyway.

We remember the excitement of those first few months - buying your new fur baby all the new toys, bonding with them, expurriencing cuddles from your cat child for the furst time….it's a meowgical experience. So, we can relate to the future cat dad in the post below, who is so excited to adopt his first cat that he went on a huge shopping spree. We did the exact same thing when we got our first cat. We got everything they could ever want and more. And, surprise, surprise, they didn't want any of it. They only wanted the boxes they came in. We'll never make that mistake again!

The most impawtant thing we learned from our first cat was patience. Patience to give them the time, space, and safety to open up. You can't force cats to do anything, but you can give them the opportunity to be the best versions of themselves.
