I'd do just about anything to see the Shire in spring. Tiny flowers poking through the thick grass, moss on every tree, and Old Mr. Brandybuck selling freshly grown turnips from a cart on the corner are just a few of the delights of the hobbit world in springtime. Symbolically, Hobbiton of the Shire is a lot like spring in the story of the Lord of the Rings. After the long, evil winter of Sauron in the East, terrorizing all of Middle Earth, the hobbits can return to their oasis of life in the rolling green hills that surround their cozy hobbit holes.
With a food festival always around the corner and some earthy vegetable in harvest, it's no wonder the hobbits would never dare to leave the Shire. I wouldn't either! But alas, as the sun shines on a new Age, we must ask ourselves a crucial question in our human world here on Earth: Is it time to rewatch the LOTR movies again?
