I love David Lynch (RIP, we're gonna miss you). Wild at Heart is one of my all-time favorite films, and Twin Peaks was probably my first true TV obsession—but let's not pretend I understood any of it. And honestly? That's exactly why I loved it. Lynch's work always had this particular flavor of weird—the kind where you feel like you should be getting it, but you don't, and somehow, that makes you the crazy one.
But every now and then, Lynch would cross into "too weird" territory, leaving even his most devoted fans staring at the screen, desperately grasping for any thread of sanity. Eraserhead was like that. Fire Walk with Me was definitely like that. When the Twin Peaks prequel came out, I really wanted to love it, but it was just so bizarre, so unsettling, and so much darker than the show. The TV series always had this delicate balance of weird, creepy, and hilarious. The movie? Mostly just weird and creepy.
But looking at these behind-the-scenes photos, it's clear that—despite all the unsettling Lynchian madness—they had a hell of a time making it.
