'Gave notice, got fired instead': Employee quits job but offers boss to stay until they find replacement, only to be told to leave effective immediately

There are a lot of unexpected things you should expect when you decide to quit your job.

What we mean by that is that you cannot predict how the process of quitting your job might go, so the least you can do is expect to be met with at least a few unexpected scenarios.

For example, your boss's reaction to your resignation. You might expect them to be disappointed, sad, or even mad at you, or they might surprise you and be happy for you and wish you the best of luck. But there are endless other reactions you might never expect to get, and you can never know what exactly would happen until it happens.

The same can be said about your coworkers' reaction, your family's reaction, and about the general atmosphere on your last days at the job. You can't really know what will happen until you are fully experiencing it.

The employee in the story below definitely did not expect the reaction they got to their resignation.

When they handed in their notice, they expected their boss to try to hold on to them for as long as they could. The employee even offered to stay until the company manages to find a replacement.
Instead, the boss decided to not only accept the resignation, but to do it effective immediately. Completely unexpected.
