This is so uncomfortable! If he wants to pay for his girlfriend fine, but why the friend? They obviously planned it, and the friend came knowing she wasn't going to pay. I guess in the end he did the right thing by paying and not making a scene, but I feel like if it were me I would make a scene. She tells him it would be easier if he paid. I would just ask why. I would ask why it's easier instead of splitting. It's not 1950, anymore. Not only have we changed the entire dynamic between money, men, and women, but multiple people can pay their designated amounts easily. Ever heard of Venmo? The waiter can also split the bill no problem.
