One Texan bride had reached her wits' end with her mother-in-law-to-be and her demands. First, she expected the couple to invite 150 of their relatives to the wedding, despite her protests that they cannot afford to feed that many guests at the pricey venue. Her proposed solution was that the bride and her bridal party prepare the catering the night before, which she didn't want to do. She wanted to figure out the most tactful way to turn her down.

My future mother-in-law wants a 150 person Houston wedding, but expects me to cook the food.

I am at my absolute breaking point. My fiancé's mother is insisting that we invite 150 of her extended family members to our wedding in Houston next spring. We told her we literally cannot afford to feed that many people at a nice venue. Her solution? She told me that my bridesmaids and I should just cook all the food ourselves the night before to save money. I am not spending the night before my wedding cooking pasta for 150 strangers in a tiny apartment kitchen. How do I tell her she is being completely delusional without starting a world war?

She felt like her mother-in-law was trying to take control of everything about the day, as well as burdening her with extra work that wasn't just stressful, but also unrealistic. While she claimed that her fiancé had also been trying to moderate his mom's expectations, many people had questions as to why he wasn't creating more pushback.

Why doesn’t your fiancée speak up and tell her this isn’t going to happen? If he doesn’t, ask yourself if this is what you want to marry into.

The rest of your life is gonna be this way if you don't set boundaries now. If your future husband can't even stand up to his mom for you for YOUR wedding, you think he'll have your back in other stuff that she'll def have an issue with? Good luck. Let your future husband handle his mother.
