Being someone's employee is stressful even without the constant uncertainty of working shifts. Being subjected to a shift schedule means that not only do you have to work extremely hard to prove yourself to your employer just so you won't get fired, but your schedule and paycheck rely solely on your boss's call. Instead of you simply working a 9-5 job every day of the week, your boss gets to decide when you come in, how many times a week, and for how long. Which directly means they completely control what you get in your paycheck.

Many employees who work shifts will agree that you rarely get to work what you ask for. There are always last-minute changes, a sick coworker who needs someone to cover for them, and a boss who does not care about everyone else's life outside of work. You constantly find yourself either working too much, or not working enough. Sooner or later you realize that working shifts is simply not worth it, which leads to stories like the one down below.
