The protagonist's brother does seem extremely problematic. What kind of extreme reaction is that? It's so uncomfortable to have people like that intimately close to you. Like everything you do or say gets shut down, you can't even comfortably speak to them about anything. It's horrible.

He's really a nightmare person. He approaches everything defensively and aggressively. I had a roommate once like that. If I brought up anything to her she would tell me it's my problem. It makes you feel caged and trapped, it's such a bad energy and he has every right not to apologize.
