Our protagonist was probably bottling up these feelings for months. It's also hard to call out a new mother who is talking about their son; maybe they brushed it off every time because it's pretty normal to be excited about your baby hitting milestones. However, she was way to blatant with her weird competitiveness and totally crossed a line.
