Get to know Spike! ?? Spike recently soared to Instagram fame, so we asked his bestie (and raptor care specialist), Ell, to introduce him to his new fans!
"Spike is a 3 or 4-year-old eastern screech owl…" - 02
"He came to live with us after he was found trapped inside of a train car. We don't know how long he was in there. He flew in and the door got closed behind him, but he missed out on a lot of meals and we think the temperature got crazy in there.
So, unfortunately, Spike has suffered some pretty significant brain damage"

"See—he's just not all there"

"He doesn't have that typical 'wild awareness' that a normal screech owl should have"

"He wouldn't have lived very long so instead he lives here with us at Fontenelle Forest."

"He shares his home with his roommate George, an older eastern screech owl who's taken him under his wing."

"Spike is a fantastic educational raptor ambassador, and he does a great job getting on the glove for us—going to schools and nursing homes. And we hope to have him for many more years!"
