As if the boss’ anger at this refusal to salute and shout “Boss, yes boss” wasn’t enough, our worker had to deal with another authority figure as his, mother chimed in with some unsolicited advice based wisdom on wisdom relevant to the 17th century: Respect and be loyal to your master, even when they disrespects you. Thanks, mom!

So let’s raise a glass to boundaries, to managers learning the hard way that labor isn’t synonymous with military-like obedience. Jobs that pay peanuts shouldn’t demand martial acts of compliance. If employers want yes-men, they should hire mimes, and to mothers everywhere slowly realizing that loyalty won’t cover rent.
