Why is it that the second someone asks about our music taste, our brains short-circuit and we can't remember a single artist? Maybe it's because our playlists are an absolute mess that consist of a hodgepodge of every song we've ever liked, dating back to the early days of streaming platforms. When I was in high school, my friends and I used to swap playlists constantly. One of my best friends made a new one every month, cleverly titled after whatever month it was, and that's what we listened to on repeat for the entire month while carpooling to school.

Nowadays, I pretty much exclusively listen to my Spotify daylist, which magically curates songs based on my usual vibe during that time of the day. The best part is the weirdly specific playlist names, like chaotic small-town Friday night or spooky autumn existential crisis. I just opened my daylist now and it's titled smooth jazz office Thursday afternoon. And you know what? I'm gonna put it on. How am I supposed to explain to a stranger that that's my music taste?
