I understand both perspectives here. From Gracie's point of view, her friends will be upset and disappointed with her if they're told they have to pay more for the apartment. But at the same time, from the mother's point of view she has no reason to be forking up this much for complete strangers. Sure, when her daughter lived there things were different. Now? She has every right to raise the rent to the appropriate price.

The daughter doesn't know how good she has it. She's acting entitled, which is usually what happens when a kid is spoiled too much. In a way, it's not her fault. But in another way, she needs to own up to the fact that it's not her money, and she can't force her mom to keep paying to support her friends.
