Trying to attend an event you weren't invited to is one of those awkward experiences that you only try to do once.

Most people want to seem chill, composed, and put together. They want to be the cool friend who gets invited to parties and is a sparkling conversationalist. Cool people don't beg for things. For many people, sensing when you're not wanted is something you learn in middle school, when your snarky teen friends will be brutally honest about how much they care for your presence. We carry that into adulthood, but adults tend to be more passive-aggressive about these things. You both know that it's a little white lie, but that's just how the world works.
