27 Heroic Firefighter Memes for First Responders Ablaze With LOLs After a 36-Hour Shift

Fires are popping up everywhere in California right now. For those of you who have missed it, the state's been ablaze for the last month or so as dry ground, bushy plants, and pretty much everything flammable repeatedly have found themselves tangled in exposed live wires or unmanned camping stoves. But you know, when there's no shortage of wildfires threatening every major city from San Diego to Redding, the fellows in yellow are always there to step up.

Heroically swooping over 20ft flames, fire helicopters squash the sparks while ground crewmen work through a 30+ hour shift running on nothing but Zyns and an Uncrustable. Firefighters are the true heroes running directly into harm's way to protect unsettlingly flammable-looking houses on the edges of canyons and forests. These mustachioed first responders set alight a blaze of pride in everyone's hearts as they, once again, become the only thing protecting family homes from certain demise.

So here's a special 'thank you' to all of the firemen and firewomen out there risking their lives for strangers and tackling a literal hellscape for the sake of society. We salute you!

In the last week alone, there have been 3 brush fires within a mile of my apartment. Right smack-dab in the middle of the city, the smokey smell wafts into my windows, and I'm constantly reminded of the volatility of the natural areas right outside my door. But as the firefighter sirens sing down my neighborhood streets and the copters circle overhead, I'm relieved that my town is safe because of some sleep-deprived, 20-something-year-old hero on the tail-end of a 36-hour shift.
