Vacationing is one of the most exciting things to do. Traveling to new territory, trying new foods, experiencing new smells. It can be overwhelming, but in the end it will always be memorable. It's not everyday or every person that has the privilege to see a different country and culture. It takes time and money, and even as ubiquitous as it is, no one should take the opportunity for granted. Does that mean going home and thanking everyone you know, or kissing up to your boss at work because they technically provide the funds for something like this? Not necessarily. Everyone should be able to come back, brag about their time happily, and everyone around them should be happy for them, instead of angry or resentful. Traveling does have a certain air to it that breeds hostility and envy. People want what they can't have, and people who don't travel might feel like they're missing out on something grand and exotic.

In this story, the protagonist is a woman whose brother takes her on a trip of her dreams – to Scotland. Her brother has two children and is married, so obviously his wife took care of the kids while they vacationed. The protagonist thought everything was smooth upon arriving home, but not according to her SIL.

What I don't understand is why she doesn't make her husband thank her for taking care of the children. The original poster could have gone to Scotland anyway, and it would have nothing to do with her SIL's children.
