    Man confesses feelings to sister-in-law just months before his wedding, she flees the scene and leaves him hanging: 'I always thought of you as my brother'

    Welcome, women of the internet. Have you ever confessed your feelings to someone? Many of us likely haven't as adults. Most couples these days are meeting through dating apps, which already implies romantic interest, and thus have no reason to make any dramatic declarations of love. However, many former romantics might remember doing so as children. Maybe you added a special little note to your crush while handing out candy on Valentine's day, or maybe you told some kid you knew for a solid four days at camp that you loved him behind a stack of canoes.     In our story today, a man makes a love confession that would have been worthy of praise for his vulnerability if he were a middle schooler.       I completely froze and just shook my head, I told him that no, I have never thought about him in any way other than a friend and a brother and I never would.       I mean, if he has time to check his phone, he has time to read a brief explanation of events. It doesn't have to be cryptic. It's natural to want to talk about these sort of things in person, but this is a time-sensitive issue.

      Shadow_wolf82 That was my first thought. BIL knows she fled. He knows it's highly likely she'll tell her husband. Damage control on his end would be to immediately tell his fiancé that OP confessed feelings TO HIM and then fled when he turned her down. He doesn't necessarily need his brother to believe him if he can get his fiancé and the rest of the family to believe his version of events. He put you in a weird place. You'd be betraying your BIL's fiance for not telling but if you do tell, things in the family will get weird and divided- but that wouldn't be YOUR fault. Listen to what your husband think about talking to his brother first vs. telling the fiance. In my opinion, you and your husband should talk to his brother together and let the brother tell his fiancee. If he won't tell her then tell the fiancee before they get married.

      IF they get married… I genuinely cannot imagine going forward in this relationship. Brother-in-law's either wanted to our protagonist to divorce his brother and run away together, or he wanted to sew the seeds of a future affair. In any case, he is not loyal to his fiancée.

      Maybe together you and your husband can talk to his fiancee, afterwards. I wouldn't approach her. Alone. Do it fast before BIL preemptively tries to tell your husband or his fiancee that you tried to hit on him, because he thinks you will tell on him, after you shut him down

      Mach5Driver The agreed-upon course (between OP and husband) should be that BIL needs to be given the chance to break it off with fiancee however he chooses to--to keep the peace within OP's family. Either he can tell her the truth as to why or he can just say he fell out of love with her and hopes they can be friends. OR, OP will tell her the truth and let things take their course.

That you and his fiancee are such good friends may suggest to him that you will be hanging out at his house because of her. Does your husband's brother compete with your husband much? How were they growing up? This may in part be about the brother wanting to win one over your husband.
