Man cancels wedding when materialistic fiancée demands to alter his grandmother’s ring, despite it being an important family heirloom: “It’s just not shiny enough”

Marriage is a multifaceted and complicated decision, and it's not something anyone should take lightly. Being materialistic, for example, could be a quality you don't want in a partner. It can affect more aspects than you're aware of, and you may not want your hard earned money going towards flashy jewelry, expensive clothes, or empty purchases. 

In the story below, the protagonist is a man who is engaged to someone he thought he could love forever. Before their wedding, he finds out information about her that he didn't have before. He's proposed with his grandmother's ring, a family heirloom that has immense sentimental value. He thinks she likes it at first, only to be told it's not shiny enough, and that she wants a different stone. This causes the beginning of their relationship's demise.
