There is no way this Human Resources department is going to get away with this nonsense. Sure, they may have already prepared themselves from getting sued legally, but there are a number of ways that this employee can spread the word about their heartless, unethical decision regarding his job security.
Let's put ourselves in this person's shoes for a moment. For starters, he had just endured the harrowing experience of undergoing five surgeries/medical procedures over the course of three months. Naturally, he had been on medical leave for quite some time during his recovery from these various difficult procedures. By the time he was nearing the end of his recovery process, he had texted his boss to coordinate when it was best for him to return to the office. Getting an email from HR out of the blue like that is most employees' worst nightmare. One moment, you're coordinating a return-to-work date with your boss, and the next, you have found yourself out of a job and looking for employment. You would think this HR department would have had the decency to let the employee return to the office first before deciding to get rid of him altogether. He had been working there for several years, and if the company is restructuring, there was likely still some flexibility to keep him on… most folks would have a difficult time believing otherwise. And now, here are some comments from other employees, who were rightfully frustrated at this dude's unfortunate situation.
