Problems emerged, however, when some of the neighbors inexplicably seemed to be taking her neighbor's side, with even her in-laws weighing in, with the overarching sentiment being that some lenience should have been granted to the older woman. This, of course, is insane, and besides, being in your fifties is more than old enough to know better but not nearly old enough to use the excuse of aging mental decline—unless, of course, there are other circumstances involved.
Whenever age is used as an excuse, you can pretty much count on it being unchecked entitlement, bad behavior that was never corrected or underwent self-reflection. Instead repeatedly being reinforced by the acquiescence of the behavior from others. Of course, as we get older, we only get more set and stubborn in our ways, so by the time you're 50, it's going to take some serious self-reflection to put an end to entitled attitudes.
