The fear of getting fired is real. There's no two ways about it. Sometimes, you can be doing everything right, but even the slightest comment or lack of acknowledgment can be quickly misinterpreted. At that point, you often don't go through the process of centering yourself. You often go from zero to one hundred and immediately into panic mode.
However, in some instances, your paranoia about getting fired could have some substance to it. This sandwich worker noticed his hours were getting cut more and more while the new hire he had been training was getting scheduled during some of his prior shift times. Pretty soon it became clear that it was not paranoia; he was getting gradually replaced. Luckily, he was able to remain one step ahead of his boss and he put in his two weeks' notice before he was officially fired.
