Honestly, from all the various stories of how religions were found, this is possibly one of the more wholesome and simple approaches. And heck, why shouldn't religion be simple and straightforward, why can it not be a simple as walking over to a cat, admiring it for a moment, commenting upon its visage "That's one nice kitten right there.", putting the cat down and knowing you have appeased the gods.
