Sometimes I think about the poor, innocent Star Wars fans in 1978, eagerly gathering around their 12-inch TV sets for what they thought would be the ultimate continuation of their favorite galaxy far, far away. Imagine the anticipation—Star Wars was the only thing they had known. No streaming, no home video, just that one perfect movie they'd seen over and over in theaters. And now, finally, an all-new adventure was coming straight to their living rooms.
What did they get instead? Nearly two hours of sheer confusion. Wookiees growling at each other for what felt like an eternity—without subtitles, no less. A disjointed parade of awkward variety show sketches, nonsensical circus acts, and the most bewildering storyline imaginable. But hey, at least there was that animated segment where Boba Fett made his first appearance. The rest? Let's just say those poor kids didn't know how good they had it with just one Star Wars movie.
