Work before the holidays is usually insane. Whether you're gathering your final quarterly reports of the year or selling things like hotcakes, it's stressful, to say the least. So when it starts getting actually closer to the time off you get for the holidays, you want to do something to celebrate all the hard work you just put in—as you should! And as your management should. That's when office holiday festivities come into play. Many workplaces will throw a fun little "thank you" holiday party for their staff. Sometimes companies go all out and really show some fun appreciation. Other times, they don't… For example, throwing a "potluck." Why would you make your employees use their own money for a party that is supposed to be thanking them for their long and hard work all year? That just sounds insane. And yet, offices throw that kind of thing all the time to "show appreciation." (We all know it's really just because they want to penny-pinch.)
