What Your Favorite Anime Characters Would Look Like If They Were Stop-Motion Puppets Made by LAIKA Studios, Producers of Coraline

Welcome, anime fans and stans. Anime and stop-motion have more in common than you would think. Stop-motion producers must build intricate miniature sets and environments, craft interchangeable heads with different expressions for the dolls, and take hundreds of thousands of photos to later string together into a coherent film. A couple of seconds can take days to complete. Similarly, Japanese animators draw incredibly detailed and accurate backgrounds and thousands of animated frames while making sure to stay on model so that the characters stay faithful to their original manga designs.

Today, we are exploring an alternate universe where iconic manga were adapted by LAIKA Studios, producers of stop-motion childhood classic, Coraline. We recently saw what some anime characters would look like if they were designed by Tim Burton, another stop-motion giant. The anime characters' big eyed designs translate well to Studio LAIKA's doll-like style, resulting in a mashup we never knew we needed. Scroll down for more.
