As with most relationships, few things can create tensions between families like money. On one level, it is understandable to feel like you want to support those related to you wherever necessary and/or expect that support when you need it, but there are limits to this kind of generosity that many people choose to stretch. Almost everybody has a freeloading relative who causes problems at one time or another.
For one woman, her brother's desire to use her for cash came at exactly the wrong time. Despite the fact she was pregnant with her first child and that her and her husband were scraping by in Manhattan, he thought it was OK to ask her to lend him and his wife money for HOA fees that they couldn't afford. She refused, and it is fair to say that the internet backed up her decision. Finances are a tricky conversation.
