16-year-old refuses to accept his father’s girlfriend as his new mom, despite their engagement, causing rift in the family when he tells her he has no interest in being her son

Growing up without certain members of your family is an emotionally arduous process, one that takes immense regulation, understanding, grieving, and support from others. Being a child without a parent is a tragic scenario, one that no child should have to go through. This brings us to the Reddit thread. 

In this Reddit thread, the original poster (OP) is a 16-year-old boy who's lost his mother. His father has been dating a woman, Kate, for a long time now, and Kate has children of her own, albeit much younger. As much as OP's father and Kate try to combine their children into a happy, healthy, nuclear family, it becomes impossible over time. OP is defiant about intermingling with his father's girlfriend or her children. Push comes to shove when he refuses to walk her down the aisle at their wedding, and even tells her that he has no interest in being her son.
