Leadership will literally blame anything—or anyone—but themselves whenever a clear problem emerges, especially if they or their policies are actually the source of the problem. They may even choose to ignore the problem, dismissing and punishing those who point it out until it becomes impossible to ignore. Of course, by this point, the problem will be much bigger than it initially was, requiring more resources and being much more costly to resolve, in addition to any time wasted in the meantime.
This worker found themself clashing with a new boss, who had made it his mission to strip back any and all inefficiencies in the company. Any time anyone tried to share any insight with the boss, who clearly deemed his subordinates and their insights to be beneath himself, they would themself the target of the boss's favorite repeated dismissal: "If we want your input, we will ask for it." So, the worker's attempts to share vital information about why the company's turnover was so high were ignored until they couldn't be ignored any longer.
