Talking about money can be so gauche. It depends on the circumstances. Should you talk to your coworkers about how much they're making? Yes, you absolutely should. But is it the best thing to talk about at a dinner party? Not so much.
They say that money talks and wealth whispers, and this is a great example of it. Some people get their paychecks and just have to buy designer clothes, expensive cars, or the best new tech just so they can show it off to everyone around them. It's the kind of person who will wear Gucci to lunch, then sheepishly ask you to pay for the meal. It's the attitude of the person who is paying an outrageous amount of money for their car each month, which is stopping them from having any extra cash on hand. While people can do whatever they want with their money, they can't force the folks around them to be impressed.
Wealthy people are often very hush-hush about their money. They'll have multiple homes, but they don't brag about it. Their kids probably wear nice clothing, but it won't be covered in brand tags. There's nothing cool about loudly bragging about how much money you're bringing in. Why not just let everyone wonder about it instead?
