The best part of working a corporate job is the promise of a large cash bonus at the end of the year. This type of money can be the cushion many individuals need to keep themselves afloat or help in the plans they have for their future. The downside of having a financially successful career is the target you have on your back.
Family comes creeping out of the woodwork looking for their cut of the sum, and because folks would do anything for family, they graciously give it to them. At what point does it stop, though? How many times can you offer your help to your parents before you realize you're being used as their personal piggy bank? Especially when they have their own money that they use carelessly and without hesitation—you're their bailout.
In this next story, a successful woman expresses she's helped her parents out financially since she started working. She recently received a generous work bonus and planned on taking a vacation and holding the rest for the future. When her parents yet again ask her to lend them some money, she refuses. Her parents also received a generous work bonus but carelessly spent the funds on electronics, a new car, and other non-urgent items. So, the daughter finally teaches them a lesson in Financial Literacy 101.
